It all started in the distant 1996 with a large exhibition entitled "From the reality of photography to the transcendence of images" held at the Zakynthos Museum on Saturday, 7th of September 1996, dedicated to Manolis Hatzidakis, the academic - Byzantine scholar, who during the devastating earthquakes at Zakynthos in 1953, pioneered the rescue and collection from the ruins of 800 icons, numerous woodcarvings and silverware, two complete iconostasis, mural ensembles as well as the founding and organization of the Zakynthos Museum.
His photographs of the ruins and corresponding photographs before and after 1996 were exhibited together with a digital presentation application.
The inspiration and the effort to develop the application finally, in 2020 and after persistent efforts of the Zakynthos Chamber of Commerce, the project was included in the funding framework, arriving today to have the first complete version of the application. We wish to present the project in tourism exhibitions. It's not an application just for visitors. It is an application for the old and the young to see what Zakynthos was like before the earthquake. A connection with culture, with our city, with our past.
